WSUD Initiatives: Green Roof

On the 5th of December 2006, the roof garden on Property Building. The Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEADP) roof garden is an example of the integration between art and science. DEADP staff believe the implementation of the roof garden addresses key global issues, including; sustainable development, the effective management of the environment, combating “Climate Change” and the efficient usage of natural resources. The purpose of the roof garden is to reduce environmental impacts through the following two main stormwater management processes;​​​​

 

 

  • Effective stormwater attenuation and reduction; and
  • The regulation of temperatures in the Property Centre building.
